What is a Dental Appliance?
To maintain excellent oral health, we need to do much more than simply brush and floss. Those of us who play sports or who snore, grind or clench our teeth may want to consider dental appliances, which can help to preserve and protect our oral structures, in addition to our overall health and wellbeing.
At Vic West Dentistry, we offer dental appliances such as mouth guards, sleep apnea devices and CPAP machines to help protect the health of your oral cavity.
Snoring & Sleep Apnea Appliances
Not only can sleep disorders disrupt your sleep, they can negatively impact your overall health and wreak havoc on your wellbeing.
Sleep apnea is a potentially life-threatening condition that can cause many chronic health issues, in addition to excessive sleepiness during the day. For many patients, it can be treated with dental appliances or as a last resort, surgical remedies.
In patients who snore, their relaxed throat tissues cause the airway to become restricted, producing the sound of snoring as oxygen is forced through. For patients who experience sleep apnea, their throat tissues over-relax and block the airway, prompting the brain to wake them up so they can breathe.
At Vic West Dentistry, we offer custom-fitted oral appliances to move the lower jaw and tongue muscles to help open the airway. This helps improves your airflow and keeps you from waking throughout the night - giving you a restful night's sleep.

Sports Guards
If you happen to take a hit to the mouth while playing sports, a mouth guard acts as a barrier between your teeth and the soft tissue of your mouth, to protect your smile.
Night Guards
Do you clench your jaw while you sleep? For patients who suffer from jaw pain, clenching or TMJ Disorder, relief can come in the form of a night guard.
A mouth guard can be an effective way to prevent clenching and offer some pain relief. If teeth grinding is your issue, a mouth guard will help protect your teeth from damage over time.
